the opera continues
By: klaus | January 8th, 2009Should there have been any doubts Lukas Podolski wished to come home, he settled it telling Il Tempo in a series of interviews.
“I have said I want to leave as soon as possible. But if I have to continue playing in the Bundesliga I want to do so with Köln.
“If not, then I want to move to a club who will give me the chance to have a run in the team, exactly the opposite of what happened at Munich.
“They tell me Roma are interested. I haven’t had any direct contact with them but I can’t deny that an adventure in Italy would be interesting. Luca (Toni) told me that I would be happy in Italy and I could grow as a player.
“If, as I said, they give me the chance to play regularly I could opt for Roma. But I also can’t ignore the fact that Roma are in the Champions League and have great players in their squad like Totti and De Rossi.
“It would be great to play with them.”
Issuing a warning Uli Hoeneß said on the Bavarians web-site:
To all those who believe that they are going to get Lukas at a bargain, I will issue a clear refusal.”
Unfortunately as much our Lukas wants to return home, to a place where he can raise his family in the environment he prefers it is unlikely that Uli Hoeneß and Jürgen Klinsmann will not allow it to happen. I hope that I am proven wrong but either way, Lukus’ wishes to come home have solidified my opinion of him forever.

“But if I have to continue playing in the Bundesliga”
Is that a good translation? it sounds a bit like as if someone would force him?
Otherwise this interview tells me, that if Bayern and Cologne can agree on the transfer fee then he’ll be a Cologne player. All the sweet talking he does about other clubs is just to keep doors open, in case Cologne can’t meet Bayern’s demands. So at this point it looks like the transfer to Cologne is 98% a done deal.

98% done deal…Jan, are you referring to what Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is saying on tz today? Cologne had made a new bid and Rummenigge is ‘confident this could really happen’.
From what Rummenigge said, it is back on.

Yes, it looks like it is going to happen. I hope to post good news soon.
Jan, I am confused what you mean and the word “forced” was actually used in the article. It is possible that the confusion in wording is was the translation in the article as I do not know if it was originally conducted in Italian or German.

Klaus, well the sentence “if I have to continue playing in the Bundesliga” sounds like he would like to play in another league but might be forced to stay in the Bundesliga. It sounds odd and doesn’t fit into the context of everything else he’s saying.

diana, actually I was just referring to the interview Klaus quoted. The new statements by Rummenigge could raise the probability to 99% with the one remaining percentage point being the small difference in what Cologne offered and Bayern wanted.

I see, Jan. This is one piece of news I seriously hope to have a happy ending. It has been dragging back and forth like there is no tomorrow. Rummenigge’s statements had actually raised my hope even more.
